Child and Family FAQ
-
How does telehealth work for younger children?
For children ages 2–7, I provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) sessions via a secure telehealth platform. I meet with you and your child together during these sessions.
Using a Bluetooth headset, I offer live coaching and guidance while you interact with your child in your home. This allows you to practice new strategies in real time, in your child’s natural environment—making therapy even more effective.

How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Therapy can be both preventive and supportive. Just like we attend annual checkups with doctors, mental health support can help us stay on track emotionally and behaviorally.
Many families reach out when they’ve tried their own strategies and things still feel overwhelming. Others seek help early, wanting guidance and tools before problems escalate. Both are valid. If you're unsure, a free 15-minute phone consultation can help clarify if therapy is right for your child at this time.

How many sessions will my child need?
Every family is different. For PCIT, the average length is 12–20 sessions, depending on your child’s needs and how consistently you’re able to practice the skills between sessions. For older children and teens, therapy is tailored to their goals and may vary in length.

What if my child won’t talk during therapy?
This is common and completely okay. With younger children, I guide parents through interactive play-based sessions. For older children and teens, I create a safe, welcoming space and use developmentally appropriate approaches to help them feel comfortable opening up over time.
